Description

Located at the slope of the Miscanti Volcano, Miscanti Lagoon has a surface of 15 km2, at 4,200 masl, its neighboor Meñiques Lagoon is located 5 meters lower, with a surface of 1.5 km2. These lagoons are part of the Flamingo’s National Reserve and were witnesses of the first human settlements of the zone: about 4,000 to 3,000 B.C., what can be seen in the circle shaped constructions, made of stones, that worked as pens and sheepherding areas. This scenario is also prosperous for a wide variety of flora and fauna, specialy birds like the wari or the horned tagua.

In this occasion we will visit the great Salar de Atacama in the National Reserve Los Flamencos where we will be able to enjoy its immensity surrounded by its fauna in the Chaxa Lagoon and surroundings among the flamingos that with their beauty prove to be the main attraction of the salt flat.

Then we will take the road to the altiplano to visit the Miscanti and Miñiques lagoons at 4,200 m.a.s.l. at the base of the volcanoes of the Andes, through their paths we will enjoy the nature of a landscape of contrasts. Finally before returning we will visit the town of Toconao, its bell tower and church of San Lucas, both national monuments since 1951.
